Ooops.  I should have been clearer.  I meant of the patches one could
use in the second solution, I prefered the first patch.

I personally liked having both overall soltuions in my kernel.  If I
was not using any ext2 filesystems, I like not having the driver code
loaded in my kernel.

Yes please.  ext3 on root is important!
