ps behaviour is sometimes puzzling, even when not related to devfs. For me,
it translates uid to user name only for system, not for real users:
[guillaume@silbermann guillaume]$ whoami
guillaume
[guillaume@silbermann guillaume]$ id -u
501
[guillaume@silbermann guillaume]$ ps -aux
