gimp print are the best printer drivers available. They are often even
better than windows drivers (speaking of ink jet experience).
Epson photo 890 printers work a 2880 dpi with no overhead. Clear and
crisp output. So cups + gimp print 4.1.99 is the best choice, with kups
setup.
Unfortunately, cooker has always been slow at updating the drivers
(4.1.99 alpha2 has been long to get in).
Now 4.1.99 alpha3, wich brings many improvements and many bug fixes has
been out for some time, you can get it from:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/
Build and install it, and start kups (wich allows detailed printer
setup) to setup your printer.
