And they make it easier a lot easier to screw up ... :-) I feel somewhat
uncomfortable at the thought that a graphical frontend to hdparm should
be accessible directly from the menu of every Mandrake system ...

And usually you'll need hdparm only once anyway, don't you? You make
your settings and add them to rc.local or whereever.
