Well, I most certainly lost direct rendering by doing that. If I'm using
the XFree-4.0.1-supplied libGL.so.1.2, direct rendering gets back,
but glxinfo reports that Mesa version 3.4.2 is installed and I loose
support for GL_EXT_paletted_texture (try Mesa-demo 'paltex'). I also get
no support for OpenGL overlays.
