Well, one more attempt ...
I specifically installed 2.4.3-20mdk under cooker to test it once more.
In 2.4.3-20mdk i2c-i801 loads without problems:
i2c-core.o: i2c core module
i2c-i801.o version 2.5.5 (20010115)
i2c-core.o: adapter SMBus I801 adapter at e800 registered as adapter 0.
i2c-i801.o: I801 bus detected and initialized
In all recent cooker kernels it does not load climing no devices was found:
i2c-i801.o version 2.6.0 (20010612)
i2c-i801.o: Error: Can't detect I801, function 3!
i2c-i801.o: I801 not detected, module not inserted.
I tried to compile i2c-i801.c from 2.4.3-20mdk in current kernek with
absolutely the same result. Which at leat indicates the problem is not
in module itself.
This is ASUS CUSL2 motherboard (i815e chipset) and device (with function
3) exists, no problem:
