Can you explain? If I compile ext2 support as a module, can't I mount an
ext2fs regardless of what filesystem I'm using on other partitions? This
has always been the case, except that in Mandrake 8,0 and below, the
modules weren't included in the initrd so that you couldn't compile
support for your root fileystem in as a module.
An interesting question would be what happens when you compile the kernel
yourself? Do you also need to make a new initrd? Or does the default
initrd have modules for every journaling filesystem provided already?
Again, it seems like Mandrake 8.1 really supports this well, whereas 8.0
and below it was difficult to do this.
