A friend is tyring to install Mandsrake 8.1b3 on a new Compaq laptop. After 
getting past some USB detection hangups in the install phase (basically, he  
hacked the install images -first and second stage - and removed the USB 
modules so they would not load), he is stymied by the ethernet and modem 
configuration.

I think the modem is a Winmodem and don't seem too be able to track down a 
driver for the ethernet device. Anyone with any experience with these two 
particular devices? My suggestion to him was to take the easy way out and buy 
a PCMCIA combo card that was supported. 8)

Any info from this computer that would help cooker/beta3?
