James, post any errors from /var/log/XFree86.0.log, they would help a
lot in diagnosis.
I also have a Via mobo (VT8601/82C586/82C686/CyberBlade-i1) which locks
up (doorbell time) when I start XFree86v4 on it under Beta1.
