ok I try to do a very unusual installation to stress DrakX.
I've got 3 SCSI HD on an Adaptec 2940u2w + IDE HD.
hardware : Asus k7v + Athlon 800 slot A + 256 Mo RAM + GeForce + Netgear
FA310TX + WinTV PCI + SBLive Value + realmagic H+
So I try an expert install on the IDE HD ( /dev/hda ). The boot from
the SCSI DVDROM was fine ( contrary to 8.0 ).
+ cf before
+ partition creation
/boot ext3 primary
/ XFS extended
/home JFS extended
format for JFS failed ( mkfs.jfs -f /dev/hdax )
warning concerniong a possible partition table corruption
as I can see them, I follow.
/boot ext3 primary
/ JFS extended
+ Package selection
normal for an expert install
+ Packages installation
normal
+ user creation
no possibility to creat root account without password ( I mean no button for
that, I didn't want to test a blank password ).
still have the ability to make user with blank password or with just a space
as password.
+ Networking configuration
again the confirmation box for my detected NIC came twice.
+ Printer configuration
as before
+ summary
the same
+ mouse configuration
the same
+ services configuration
the same ( medusa-init description incomplete )
+ bootdisk creation
seems to have no problem
+ bootloader configuration
everything "seems" to be fine.
+ security
I choose average/middle.
+ XFree config
just a remark : it was the same in the newbie and in the expert install.
To my mind it's a good thing.
+ reboot and test
lilo works. boot and surprise :
> mount: error 22 mounting jfs flags kernel: No init found. Try passing
> init= option to kernel
last but not least my partition table was dead : RIP
I've just manage to recover the FAT, and as I make a mistake I lose a 12Go
ext2 backup partition with about 6Go downlaods stuff
grrrrrrrrrr
can mandrakesoft employ someone from powerquest : partition magic is really
the safest :(
I've noticed a problem with the installer when it generate fstab for my
previous install ( cf first install report ).
[will@bastard rc1]$ grep floppy /mnt/rc1/etc/fstab
/mnt/floppy /mnt/floppy supermount
dev=/dev/fd0,fs=vfat,exec,--,iocharset=iso8859-15,umask=0,sync,codepage=850 0
0 ~~~
there's -- and this has nothing to do here.
Now i will try a third install, and I hope it will work. I have to choose
between XFS and JFS ... which one. Maybe 2 install to them the both :)
