I know you don't support these RPMS, but maybe you can tell me why when I
rebuild from SRPMS from NVIDIA's site, the X server will just crash. If I
use pre-compiled binaries from NVIDIA's site then it works. Maybe it's the
optflags I use when compiling?
Anyway, if your builds have support for devfs, and if they are run through
rpmlint, that would be good. (For example, I think NVIDIA uses
non-standard permissions).
Unfortunately, these drivers aren't offered during the install. It could
be nice if install automatically connected to the NVIDIA FTP site and got
them. Same for winmodmes too. I don't want to encourage non-open software.
I think that, in general, we should prefer open source over binary-only,
but sometimes it is nice.
