how come !

[root@bastard RealPlayer9]# ls -l /dev/video*
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           10 sep 29 01:59 /dev/video -> v4l/video0
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           10 sep 29 01:59 /dev/video0 -> v4l/video0

mine is not a folder but a symlink and I use devfs

this symlink have been done by default for me.
did you have dynamic installed ?

neither have I. But this green line pb is known and normally have been fixed since a
long time ...
are you sure concerning your freqtab ?
I attach my .xawtv

I never manage to have real fullscreen with it ;)

not sure.
usually the autoprobe works fine. For me ( France, cable, WinTV PCI ) it works fine
without any customisation.

from dmesg :

bttv: driver version 0.7.72 loaded
bttv: using 2 buffers with 2080k (4160k total) for capture
bttv: Bt8xx card found (0).
PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:0c.0
PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 00:0c.1
bttv0: Bt878 (rev 17) at 00:0c.0, irq: 11, latency: 32, memory: 0xd7000000
bttv0: subsystem: 0070:13eb  =>  Hauppauge WinTV  =>  card=10

+ autodetect the Hauppauge WinTV ( 10 )

bttv0: model: BT878(Hauppauge new (bt878)) [autodetected]
bttv0: Hauppauge msp34xx: reset line init
i2c-core.o: adapter bt848 #0 registered as adapter 0.

+ the same for the tuner ( 3 )

bttv0: Hauppauge eeprom: model=61326, tuner=Philips FI1216MF MK2 (3), radio=no
bttv0: i2c: checking for MSP34xx @ 0x80... found

but it's true that we may have the ability to fine tune this if autodetect failed via
harddrake : select the right card, select the right tuner and harddrake edit
modules.conf to pass the right options.
