Which one (model or USB vendor/product; class would be interesting as 
well)? Some are suproted some not as it seems.

See suggestion to add

above usb-storage sd_mod

to /etc/modules.conf. It may be "below" as well, does not matter in this 
case.

Should not be needed actually ... as long as it is supported variant.
