Concerning the installation of the 8.0, Michel out here in RECIF used two
"tricks" :
- either he booted with kernel 2.2.x and it worked.
- or he took the hard disks out of the machine, put them in a Compaq 3000,
booted with a 2.4.x kernel and everything worked fine, then he put back the
disks in the Compaq 1850.

So, there really are two problems : the serial probe and the 2.4.x kernel.
