Cooker used 2.2 alpha, and was nice to get an early look at what the KDE 
folks were up to.

True, but somebody's got to pound on it to help them debug it.  I don't mind 
using code that's alpha, provided it at least partially works, and that the 
developers are addressing problems and fixing them rapidly.  It's part of the 
excitement for me, and one of the reasons I obsessively play with cooker!
