OK - here is, but I think you miss my point.

[root@One09 log]# dumpe2fs /dev/hda9 | grep features
dumpe2fs 1.25 (20-Sep-2001)
Filesystem features:      has_journal filetype needs_recovery sparse_super

This is consistent with my fsck, i.e. there is no problem with the fs ->  is 
it possible that something has been lost, in the uploaded 'install'? - as 
there is no /mnt/hd during install, and certainly not afterwards.
