Ok, this is part of my /var/log/messages file: Dec 4 23:17:22 moya xinetd: xinetd startup succeeded Dec 4 23:17:23 moya kernel: parport_pc: Strange, can't probe Via 686A parallel port: io=0x378, irq=-1, dma=-1 Dec 4 23:17:23 moya kernel: lp: driver loaded but no devices found Dec 4 23:17:23 moya cups: cupsd startup succeeded It is upon kernel-2.4.16(final), using modules both for parallel port and printer support. I have disabled the default MDK option of "load other devices" into the parallel port menu. Reading a dozen of newsgroups topics there were rumors that CUPS has a bug. Which is the most possible truth? Keep in mind that when I was test-installing MDK just now, I got the printer setup and test printing properly. - Mike
