Finding it the right way:
urpmf --provides ncurses-devel

Or with an ftp-client.
yafc cooker
ls *ncurses*

And you would have seen the light.

As for the naming conventions. They are very sophisticated and help in
keeping libraries updateble without having to rebuild all depending
apps after after an update.

And if you think about that one for a while I am sure you will see the
light as well.
