It seems someone somewhere got carried away with deps, and everyone else is just cut&pasting from his spec, since it never fails to install needed parts. The fact that it also installs unneeded ones doesn't seem to bother a lot of people. I understand laziness. I don't make rpms cause I'm too lazy to figure out the right way. But I also don't make bad rpms. And no, a bad rpm is NOT better than none at all - just look at the newbie complaints on #mandrake (irc.openprojects.net) for a day to see why.
