Yes, I know what they are used for. But the depency information can be wrong sometimes. For instance, the file libvorbisfile.la contains this line:
# Libraries that this one depends upon. dependency_libs=' -lm -L/lib -logg' But if I want to link with libvorbisfile it doesn't work because libvorbis.so is also required.
