Hi, Here are a few things that I came up with after doing fresh installs with DrakX 1.618, it is in two parts:
GUI Based Install 1. Minor spelling on Advanced Help Display (F2), secutiry should be security. 2. Deselected all groups and I get the new prompt to pick Base Only, No X or With X; No X and With X result in the following error: * warning: Undefined subroutine &install_any::setDefaultPackage called at /usr/bin/perl-install/install_steps_interactive.pm line 674. 3. After installation complete and restart system, I was up and running OK. a) The is a /swap directory in the root dir. Why is it there? or what is it used for? b) msec is adding the groups nogroup, xgrp, ntools and ctools immediately following any users I define. Please, please, please Couldn't the /usr/share/msec/lib.sh be modified to change the groupadd so that they are added with GIDs less than 500, or if these are really need for some other things, then may be they should be added to the basic group file that gets installed so that msec does not add them.? 4. In the Services Select screen, the apcupsd service is listed under Printing; since this is the APC UPS daemon, perhaps it should be under either System or Other. 5. Re-ran the install, but selected Upgrade Packages choice (nice), but when I got to the Group selection screen it indicated that there was 17M worth of upgrades required on the system I just installed. Selecting OK pops up the new choice window asking for Base, No X or With X; selecting Base changes the 17M to 4M, and switching to the Individual Packages display I noticed that the existing packages had an Orange check mark, but I could not see any yellow ones that would account for the 4M upgrade indication. Finally,I continued with the installation and the bootloader screen created two new loader options: linux and failsafe and renamed the existing ones to old1_... even though there was not actual upgrade of the kernel packages. Auto Install 1. Reviewed the generated syslinux.cfg file and the append lines are longer than 256 characters; results in Stage 1 not getting the whole line. I installed using a static ip and a rather long path name for the NFS mount point. Is there any plan to begin using the new shorter aliases to get the length down below 256? 2. Did a quick review of the generated auto_install.cfg file and I was wondering if the bootloader, miscellaneous and services could be added to the file too? Services would really be nice, especially if it was to contain the actual list of services selected to be started. 3. Attempted to run an auto install, and I received the following error message: * step `summary' finished * starting step `installUpdates' * warning: Can't locate object method "installUpdates" via package "install_steps_auto_install" (perhaps you forgot to load "install_steps_auto_install"?) at /usr/bin/perl-install/install2.pm line 79. Best regards Dave
