Yes.

Would you please

- make sure you have current versions of at least kernel, devfsd, pam
and initscripts (you need at least kernel-2.4.17-Xmdk and
devfsd-1.3.20-Xmdk)

- look up message with subject "PATCH: sanitize devfsd configuration" in
cooker archive and apply the patches

- remove *contents* (not the directory itself) of /lib/dev-state

- reboot and try cdrecord --scanbus and other commands once more.

Please, test several reboots (the first time it should work just because
/lib/dev-state has been emptied)

Please, note, that the patch *requires* the above versions, using older
versions will result in different problems.
