Thx, I got XINE running but as of latest cooker my soundcard got lost.  I have a SB compatible card and ran sndconfig but there were all sorts of errors.  I ran artsd& from console and got:

Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (Device or resource busy)

I get this on KDE startup now too and says something like sound server will continue with output to null device or something like that...can't remember exactly.  When I run sndconfig I get a variety of errors so something is seriously broken as of late.  XINE now runs...but due to my soundcard problems it is soundless!!

P.S. I do everything as root on my development box as I can't be assed logging in as root to do all the stuff I want to do that require root privileges but thank you for the warning. Trust me, I know the dangers of running as root...learned that the hard way couple of times!! =)

dunno. but just for starters, you might try re-compiling the srpm. maybe
you have a deps problem that wasn't caught when install the binary rpm?
Hi,
I've tested it, the arts driver doesn't work if you haven't started artsd
before. So either type artsd& or run under KDE.

BTW don't use xine as root.
