Yes, I get the same thing but I have an additional problem.  After the last update (to 8.2 beta plus a couple of cooker updates since) it lost my soundcard or rather, didn't find it on upgrade.  I ran sndconfig to try and set it up, which has always worked before (I have a Sound Blaster compatible soundcard) but now it just comes up with all sorts of errors...SO, in short, for now I'm soundless.

With the latest update my startup sound works but it gives me the error that 
/dev/dsp is allready in use and it is going to use /dev/null  but then it 
still makes the sound *sometimes*   and the sound in the control panel works 
if i push it like 2 times.   Also Kde Media player doesn't work still.   it 
crashes the arts server when i launch it
