more info (from http://www.phoenix.com/PlatSS/PDFs/specs-cdrom.pdf):

to find the catalog (eg: boot.cat), look at the number at offset 0x8847 
(0x47 + 17 * 2048) of the cdrom. 
On the mdk 8.1 image, i have 0x838. So now go to offset 0x41c000
(0x838 * 2048).
This is the "Validation Entry". At offset 0x41C021, there is 2 which means
1.44MB floppy emulation.

At offset 0x41C028, there is 0x839, so the boot floppy is at 0x41C800.
