I'm no X-pert, but 8.1 did a good job getting accelerated gfx going on my
Dell Inspiron 8000 with ATI Rage 128, I've compiled in the framebuffer, agp
and DRI components for the card into my kernel as usual, and the X config
file looks to be the same as usual, but trying to play gltron or armagetron,
etc... I get a small viewscreen - ie. X doesn't resize, and SLOW non accel
gfx.

Here's what I got installed:

XFree86-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-devel-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-doc-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-libs-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-xfs-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-Xnest-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-server-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-compat-libs-4.1.0-2mdk
XFree86-glide-module-4.2.0-3mdk
XFree86-Xvfb-4.2.0-3mdk

Here's the X config made during setup:
