If you are not going to do it, maybe I will take a look at the patch.
You just need to check for whitespace (are you sure a function for this
doesn't exist already in gaim?). Because ideally, I'd like to keep the
:/ it just shouldn't trigger when no whitespace is following the smiley.
This goes for other smileys as well. Even the real AIM client is
probably not so intelligent, but something like "(some text): " maybe
shouldn't trigger a smiley either.
