Hi folks..
This new way of starting up the system, with a pretty picture and most
of the messages gone has some problems. Hopefully it's not too late to
address them before 8.2 goes out the door...
It looks like most of the startup messages have moved to console
11? This is fine, but there is NO indication on the main startup screen that
they've moved here. Any errors (like detecting new hardware, for instance)
that sit and wait for operator input are sitting on console 11 while the
user is sitting on console 1, wondering why his machine isn't booting!
(like me about 10 minutes ago, for example)
Here's a suggestion... we put up the graphic, with the three little
clocks, on console 1. Should we put some kind of "alive bug" - something that
shows that the machine IS doing something, even if we're not putting all
of the messages up?
Another suggestion - a message to look on the other screen if
the system hangs? Like a "Hit <ctrl> <F11> for startup message" ?
