Our LUG (http://plug.linux.org.au/) has won the Australian Linux conference (http://linux.conf.au/ or http://www.linux.org.au/conf/) for 2003. We're thinking of doing some distribution-specific workshops in the days immediately before the conference. This year, there was a mini-Debian-conference held before the main conf.
RedHat have jumped at the idea, and I suspect that Mandrake will too. I'm probably going to become the Mandrake pre-conference organiser by default, if it happens. This message is a first-contact working up through the ranks rather than top-down as is the usual process. If there are better places to ask, please let me know. How much supporting of speakers we can do is entirely dictated by our as-yet-untested ability as fundraisers. If you can give a talk in the course of doing something else in Oz, this may help. If you're not a motivating or informative Mandrake staff speaker, but are doing something significant with a large Linux-centric app or service like Apache, GIMP, KWord or Coda, you may yet get a spot in the limelight. If you're not at all interested in presenting anything, and can't be talked into it, consider how much nicer Australia is than Europe, North America or CCCP in January. (-: If you live in countries like Australia that have mandatory corporate spending on Staff Development or Training, consider how much development could happen for you in a state with a mild climate, endless beautiful beaches, stately forests and so on, amid a crowd of enthusiastic geeks. Poster and link to 5-minute promo movie at http://perth2003.linux.conf.au/ Please mail me (off-list) if: * You can present something appropriate; or * You can organise stuff on behalf of Mandrake; or * Your company would be interested in sponsoring or advertising through LCA2003 or a pre-Conference; or * You live in Western Australia and want to get involved; or * You know anyone in the above categories. Cheers; Leon
