I'm just curious why it worked with Suse 7.3 -

Maybe an informative system message which explains this to the average
user and how to turn the FB on if they want it?

I'm just thinking about the non-technical desktop user who tries
Mandrake for the first time . .

I know - there is a fine line between ignorance and stupidity - and
there are people who argue about "dumbing down" Linux . . .
