Had this occasionally with 7.1 and I think 8.0 on some older machines. Generally the CD-ROM was too cheap (died when run in DA mode, I'm pretty sure boot is done in polled mode), if there is a kernel option for polled-mode CD operation, try that (F1 from the penguin screen, give elaborate LILO command); and also on one new Dell (or maybe it was Compaq?) where the CD-ROM was cable-select. Manually selecting it worked fine. Does console 3 or 4 show you any errors? Cheers; Leon
