I also observed problems with XFree86 in Mandrake 8.2 Beta3 and now with Beta4.
The Xwindow screen is shifted compressed to the left almost hidden after I switch back
from console (Alt+F1, Alt+F2)
to the X window screen (Alt+F7), I am using S3 Trio64V+ (generic) and
XFree86-4.2.0-8mdk.
