Occasionally when I type i for interactive bootup, the system will freeze after completion of journal check on hard drives, with the hard drive light litup solid (and no hard drive noise).
Possible mitigating circumstances might be doing the above after switching cdrw and floppy modules in my Dell Inspiron 8000 (after shutting the laptop down, of course).
