That was my understanding too. AA and TT and Type1 work fine under beta3.
I have read through the changed Xftconfig file, and the only changes I could see was 
the additon of two font dirs, and the aa settings for the various symbol fonts 
appended at the end.

I couldnt find anything to effect AA and TT and Type1 fonts, which is why I posted and 
asked.
