Hi,

I'm having trouble getting 8.2beta4 (sorry, don't have access to a quick
enough network to get cooker yet) to work with my soundcard, an OPTI Plug
and play card.

If I use the 2.2.20 kernel, then sndconfig says it can't find any pnp
soundcards, I point it to MAD16 Pro (chipset on my card) and give it the
correct interrupt settings, and it works happily.

If I use the 2.4.18 kernel then sndconfig finds an Opti pnp sound card, and
will set it up happily (plays demo sounds fine). When I try to playback a
wav (play track01.wav &) then the playback stutters continually. And the
sound normally doesn't work after a reboot or if I go into X.

With both kernels if I use harddrake, it finds my card, I can click on the
'run sound configuration tool' button (or something like that) and configure
it, when click OK, I'm told that modprobe can't load the isapnp module.

Any ideas, is there some way to disable isapnp, so that the 2.4 kernel works
like the 2.2 kernel.
Is this related to DevFS?

Jeb
