I used to have the ide cdrw and the usb flash card reader
working. They disappeared:

$ ls /dev/scd0
ls: /dev/scd0: No such file or directory

$ ls /dev/sda1
ls: /dev/sda1: No such file or directory

$ cdrecord -scanbus
<zip>Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.<zip>

$ cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=linux ro root=305 quiet hdd=ide-scsi devfs=mount

In dmesg:
SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices
Vendor: HP        Model: CD-Writer+ 8100   Rev: 1.0g
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Vendor: SanDisk Model: ImageMate II Rev: 1.30
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

$ /sbin/lsmod | grep scsi
ide-scsi                8032   0
scsi_mod               92488   2 [usb-storage ide-scsi]

no sg module is loaded. If I insert it manually, two generic
devices are created in /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0 and
/dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0

$ cat /etc/modules.conf
alias usb-interface usb-uhci
alias eth0 3c59x
alias char-major-14 au8830
alias autofs autofs4
alias sound au8830
alias char-major-195 NVdriver

$ rpm -q devfsd
devfsd-1.3.24-15mdk

Tell me if you need any info, but it seems that several people
are facing the same problem.
