I think we should try and finish this thread up, because it really is not productive
until 8.2 is shipped, but there are some things that must be said.

These are the questions I have for you:
1)Have your NT admins learnt to keep their machines up-to-date? If not, then you
have bigger problems. Any other OS is the same, updates _MUST_ be done, and
regularly. Mandrake makes is easy for you to do updates.

2)You may have missed the point of changing the kernel-naming convention, but it was
actually to ensure that you _DON'T_ need to do anything besides run Mandrake Update
to update the kernel safely. Hand-editing of config files: not necessary,
Pointy-clicky: yes.

3)If you can't control the software your NT admins are installing, you are also
going to have problems.

I really believe that if you spend about 1-2 hours on the whole job after Mandrake
8.2 is released, you can sort the whole problem out. Whether that is by setting up
an updates box and mandating the running of updates, or by creating custom ISO.

Ideally, this isn't the way it should be done, but the reasons have been explained,
and I don't think there is much point in debating the issue until the ISOs actually
ship, and/or the updates are officially announced. I am sure you will get assistance
if you need help to find a solution.
