I've been having a similar problem with mozilla and j2sdk-1.4 from sun.  Mine 
crashes and exits with this error:

Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0x4019B724
Function=(null)+0x4019B724
Library=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so

This happens with rc1 & 8.2 final (but all was good with betas).
