You could check if you have hardware 3D: glxinfo |grep direct It should be set to Yes. If it is set to No... With XFree86-4.2.0-1mdk there was a problem with agpgart. It was loaded after the radeon module, while it should have been loaded before. Using rmmod and insmod in the correct order, and restarting X brought back 3D.
