This kernel has more strange problems. When starting kcontrol (from texstar KDE3) it manages to screw up terribly with: __alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp=0x1d2/0) than it seems to fill up my memory untill the VM starts killing the process, or X entirely.
