If you're lucky enough to have a Lucent modem (LT) then you can try http://downloads.mrball.net/linmodem/ltmodem-6.00b15-82_3mdk.src.rpm. You'll need to redo the spec file for your specific version of the kernel, but the build process is about 15 seconds, so it's not terribly expensive :) This is made for devfs. If you don't have devfs, it won't work unless you manually make the device nodes it needs (which the module makes when it registers with devfs). Blue skies...
