The default "quiet" mode boot that redirects all messages away
from the pretty graphical boot console, also hides important
things like the prompt from kudzu to configure new hardware.
Some services (e.g., kudzu) should bypass the quiet mode redirection
when they have something important to report. I hadn't noticed that
kudzu failed to configure some new hardware until I removed the "quiet"
boot option to create a more entertaining startup.
