I have the same problem (broken connection) for any web site that requires user id and password (and for Webmin). Same both for KDE 2.2.2 in MDK8.2 and after upgrading to KDE 3. It works in Mozilla (0.9.8). I've also tried this on two different installations, at home and at work, with the same result.
