The problem with the missing KDE menu entries with the 3.0.1 rpms I think comes from the menu entries in /usr/lib/menu from the kdebase-3.0.1-8mdk package. The corresponding entries are named kdebase3-* and they contain "?package(kdebase3)" at the start - so the entries will be only processed if the kdebase3 package is installed - but since kde 3.0.1 the packages are named no longer kde*3 but kde*-3.0.1 ... Maybe the package maintainer can have a look at the problem.
