The main thing that i guess would be accessing  mysql is the snmp collection 
agent that is built into nisca.  It runs continually sending data to mysql.      
other than that all i have installed is PostNuke and nisca.   Possibly that 
php based collection agent was not functioning properly..  It has been 
working fine for the last 8 hours or soo..   I'll post a message if it starts 
acting up in the next few days
