I think while RedHat is dominate over all, if you look at sales it is not unusual to see Mandrake or SuSE eat about 50% of the sales in a given release month. Beings that both of these distros default of KDE, it stands to reason that the majority using those distros use KDE. Also if LinuxCounter stats are even partially accurate, Mandrake Linux holds about 20% of the Linux pie, with SuSE holding 11% or so. All this seems to point again to above conclusions. Finally, if you consider every major commercial distribution other then RedHat uses KDE as the default - Mandrake, SuSE, Lycoris, Conectiva, Turbolinux, Xandros, Lindows, HancomLinux, etc. The only distros other then RedHat that do not would be Debian and Slackware, and there is good indication that many of the users of those distros also use KDE. In the end, I generally hear that KDE usage ranges from 50%-80% of the total Desktop Environment users. There is no reason to doubt this, since KDE was usable several years before GNOME, and most people use either KDE or GNOME. BTW, RE: distros at bookstores. If that is the case, there are plenty of solutions for that. :-) If you look at kde-look.org you can find Slick icons (very different), iKons (improved default-style), Conectiva Crystal (sorta bright mixture of iKons/XP/Aqua), and there is even Gorilla a port of Ximian's icons to KDE. > > 9.)
