Yes.  It's correct for Mandrake's
build machine, but not for Mandrake users.  There's no
reason it shouldn't default to buildling for the arch
it's running on.  (More info below).

Yes.

If you look in the file /usr/lib/rpm/rpmrc, look for
lines that say buildarchtranslate:
The section currently looks like:


buildarchtranslate: athlon: i586
buildarchtranslate: i686: i586
buildarchtranslate: k6: i586

But it should be:

buildarchtranslate: athlon: athlon
buildarchtranslate: i686: i686
buildarchtranslate: k6: k6

Also, RPM can't detect athlon, so it'll detect it as
i686.  You can fix this in your rpmrc so that it says:

buildarchtranslate: i686: athlon

For that one line, and you should be set.
