Cool, killing it and restarting it worked well. If I CTRL-ALT-Fx how can I get back into the KDE session in graphics mode?

Another ugly workaround, but maybe a little quicker: Alt-F2 (run dialog pops up) killall kicker; sleep 1; kicker You might have to killall -9 kicker, depends on how bad it's hung. Blue skies...
