You just want to set the tasklist's minimum width to the full size it can be in your panel, then it will always be that size and the buttons (you call them rectangles) for programs will dynamically resize to fill the whole space - the same behaviour as Gnome 1.4. So for my 1024 width screen with several launchers and a couple of applets, I set tasklist minimum size to 650. -- adamw
