The only issue I have with nss_ldap is rpm segfaulting when it tried to unpack files for which the user/group does not exist. In such cases, I remove ldap from nsswitch, install the rpm (and it tells me which user does not exist), then put ldap back in nsswitch. Maybe you want to elaborate on your problems, since it seems most of the thread isn't on the list.
